Howlin’ Good Times at San Francisco Corgi Con 2018

On June 16th 2018, hundreds of corgis and corgi enthusiasts descended upon Ocean Beach in San Francisco, California. Here’s the lowdown on the low-riders exciting fun filled day of vendors and events. I’ve gone to so many corgi events in the past, but I had no idea what to expect going to Corgi Con. The people at NorCal Corgi Con had a full schedule of events planned all day, so right off the bat I was excited to enjoy a day at the beach with my stumpy best friend, Mugen.

Corgis 101: Shopping for your puppy

It’s time, it’s time! You’ve brought your corgi puppy home, now what? Depending on your beeder, your puppy will be between 6 to 8 weeks old when it comes home. The average weight a corgi can get is usually between 22 to 31 pounds, and sometimes larger. Preparing your home for a puppy feels a lot like human nesting in various ways. You’ll need to keep your puppy safe, prepare for potty training and begin buying things you’ll need to raise your puppy.

Corgis 101: Finding a responsible breeder

So you want a corgi puppy… what now? It’s important to note that historically the corgi was bred to be a working dog. Corgis are the smallest in the working class breeds. They are a livestock herding dog that can herd cattle, but are more well known for herding sheep. Despite their small size, corgis are fast dogs that can run at high speeds in order to get around a herd. Additionally this means that they are dogs with a doubled layer coat to protect them from high heat or extreme cold, they chase people/children/animals/things (which can lead to heal nipping if not properly trained) and have an affinity for barking at moving targets or sounds.
